Open & Click Tracking

Learn how Open & Click Tracking in SenderWiz helps monitor email engagement, track opens and clicks, and improve your campaign performance with actionable insights.

Introduction

Open and click tracking in SenderWiz allows you to monitor how recipients interact with your emails. You can track who opened your emails, which links were clicked, and use this data to improve your campaign performance.

How Open Tracking Works?

Open tracking in SenderWiz functions by embedding a small, transparent image within each email sent. When a recipient opens the email, this image loads, and an "open" is recorded. This tracking provides you with insights into engagement rates and helps identify which emails are resonating with your audience.

Key Features of Open Tracking:

  • Identifies recipients who opened the email.

  • Tracks how many times an email was opened by each recipient.

  • Assists in segmentation based on user engagement.

How Click Tracking Works?

Click tracking records whenever a recipient clicks a link within your email. Each link in the email is tagged with a unique URL that, when clicked, registers the interaction.

Key Features of Click Tracking:

  • Measures recipient engagement by monitoring link clicks.

  • Identifies popular links to help optimize content.

  • Enables segmentation based on click actions.

How to Enable/Disable Open or Click Tracking?

  1. Access Campaign Settings: Go to your campaign setup page.

  2. Toggle Tracking Options: Enable or disable open and click tracking by toggling the respective options.

  3. Save Changes: Ensure changes are saved before finalizing the campaign.

Note: Disabling these options will prevent open and click data from being recorded for that campaign.

To analyze the performance of your email campaigns, SenderWiz allows you to export both open and click reports. Follow these steps to export your reports:

  3. Other Viewing Options Besides exporting, you can view all clicks, view top clicks, toggle columns, and delete reports if necessary.

Common Reasons for Low or Zero Open Rates?

If you’re noticing low or zero open rates, there are a few common factors that could be affecting your tracking. Here are key points to review:

  1. Ensure Open Tracking is Enabled for Your Campaign Verify that open tracking is turned on in the campaign settings. If this setting is disabled, opens won’t be recorded, resulting in zero or unusually low open counts.

  2. Allow Enough Time for Open Counts to Update It can take time for open data to fully populate, as recipients may open emails at different times. Allow at least 24–48 hours for more accurate results, especially for campaigns sent across time zones.

  3. Check if Your Campaign is Plain-Text Only Open tracking relies on an embedded image, which is not possible in plain-text campaigns. If your campaign is text-only, open rates won’t be tracked. Consider using an HTML email format if you need to monitor open engagement.

  4. Tracking Image May Be Blocked Some email clients block images by default, which prevents the tracking image from loading. This is common with email privacy settings, requiring users to manually enable images to register as “opened.”

  1. Gmail May Have Clipped Your Message Gmail clips emails that exceed 102 KB, hiding the tracking image unless recipients click "View entire message." Reducing email size by compressing images and optimizing content can help avoid this issue.

Why My Open Rates Seem Too High?

High open rates can be a result of:

  • Email Scanners: Certain email providers use automated scans that can falsely register as opens.

  • Multiple Devices: When recipients open emails on different devices, each instance may be counted.

  • Internal Forwards: Recipients forwarding the email internally within their organization can inflate open rates.

Can I See the Location of Openers or Clickers?

Yes, SenderWiz records the general location of users who open or click on your emails. The location is determined by the IP address at the time of the interaction.

To access this information:

  1. Navigate to Campaign Reports: Select the campaign and go to the "Reports" section.

  2. Check Open and Click Data: Location data, including city and country, will be available for each interaction.

How to Send Emails to Openers or Non-Openers?

SenderWiz allows you to send follow-up emails specifically to those who opened (or didn’t open) previous campaigns.

Steps:

The Previous Opened/Unopened Campaigns feature allows you to take specific actions based on how recipients interacted with previous campaigns.

Alternative Steps:

  1. Segment Creation: Go to the segmentation feature and select "Open" from the criteria.

  2. Choose Campaign: Specify the original campaign to base the segmentation on.

  3. Create and Send Campaign: After creating the segment, design your new campaign and send it exclusively to this group.

This feature helps you re-engage recipients or follow up with new content.

How to Send Emails to Clickers of a Campaign by Segment?

To target users who clicked on a link within a specific campaign:

  1. Create a Segment: Choose "Click" as the criteria for segmentation.

  2. Select the Campaign and segment: Specify the campaign (with time value i.e. clicked in less than 30 days) the you want to target.

  3. Send Campaign: After creating the segment, craft your message and send it to these targeted recipients.

This is useful for following up with interested users and converting engagement into action.

Summary

Open and click tracking provide crucial insights into user engagement with your campaigns. By understanding and effectively using these features in SenderWiz, you can increase engagement, improve deliverability, and make data-driven decisions to enhance campaign performance.
